Jury Duty

Jury Group E (#1-125)
(05/27/2024 thru 05/31/2024)

You do not need to report for jury duty this week. There are no trials. Your next week of service is July 8 thru 12, 2024.
Thank you.

There are two types of jury service in Huron County - Trial (Petit) Jury and Grand Jury. Jury service in the Huron County Common Pleas Court is a four-month term. Whether you are seated as a juror or not, you are responsible to call in for your assigned weeks. The Court is usually in session from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with one hour allotted for lunch. The Court will give you further instructions on your first required appearance regarding your service.

All jurors are to call in after 5:00 p.m. on the Friday before their scheduled week(s) {419-668-0173 or 1-800-342-8006 (toll free)}. When you call in, please listen carefully to the instructions, as you may be required to report for jury service. You will reach a recorded message containing your group letter and one of three possible instructions:

  1. You need to report for jury duty on a certain day at a certain time…
  2. You need to call back on a certain day after 5:00 p.m.
  3. You do not need to come in for jury duty this week.

The Grand Jury typically meets every third Friday and usually doesn't last longer than 1:00 p.m. During your service, you will be under the supervision of the Huron County Prosecutor's Office. Grand jurors are summoned to attend an instruction session, being held on a specific day and time given to you on your original summons letter. At that session, the Judge will provide additional information concerning your duties as a grand juror.

COMPENSATION (Petit and Grand Jurors)

As a juror, you will receive $15.00 for each day you are required to report for jury service. You will receive a check for your service after the completion of your term. As a general rule you can expect to receive your check approximately three (3) weeks after the end of your term.

PARKING (Petit and Grand Jurors)

You were given a map on the your summons letter directing you to the public parking lots located near the Courthouse. Please try to refrain from parking on the street in front of the Courthouse. The Court is not responsible for any parking violations you may receive.

EXCUSES/POSTPONEMENT (Petit and Grand Jurors)

Please refer to your juror summons for excuse/postponement information. We review each and every request that is returned to us. Please be patient. Each term we select 6 groups of jurors with 125 jurors in each group, along with 40 grand jurors. It does take a while to go through each request.

DRESS CODE (Petit and Grand Jurors)

There is no set "dress code" for jury service, however, we do request that you do not wear shorts, cut-offs, tank tops, hats, etc. If you are unsure of a certain article of clothing, err on the side of caution, and do not wear it.
